IB MYP Freshmen Choir I & II (9)

The Freshmen Choir will emphasize voice and skill building. No audition is required; however, instructors will listen to each student sing to determine range, ability and voicing. With daily rehearsals, this ensemble studies music repertoire that spans centuries and cultures. Students study technique, elements of music, and performance etiquette. They participate in winter and spring concerts, along with other performance opportunities offered throughout this yearlong course.

The Varsity Soprano and Alto Choir is composed of sopranos and altos in grades 10-12 and emphasizes voice and skill building. They participate in winter and spring concerts, along with other performance opportunities offered throughout this yearlong course.

Prerequisite: Auditioned by instructor in early April
The Bel Canto Choir is a select group of sopranos and altos who aspire to reach high levels of musicianship and performance. Students develop and refine the following skills: healthy vocal production, elements of music, music history, ear training, sight reading and performance etiquette.
With daily rehearsals, this ensemble studies repertoire that spans centuries and cultures. They perform in the Fall Music Festival at Orchestra Hall, present three major concerts during the year, and participate in Tri-Metro Conference events and festivals. Additional events and opportunities may include Region 6AA State Large Group Contest, performance tours, Artist-In-Residence workshops, and small ensemble opportunities.

Music Cafe (9-12) 7746
This course is open to all students at Cooper High School. No past musical experience is required for this course. Students will study and perform African drumming and other World music. Students will study music from America that may include: acoustic guitar, film music, Jazz and Blues, Rock and Roll, Native American flute, and others.
