Updating Your Chromebook

Like any computer, updates are required regularly. Updates can fix bugs, patch security issues, and provide new features as the operating system manufacturer works to improve their software. Chromebooks are no different. Follow the steps below to make sure you have the latest software!

First, open the Quick Settings Menu by clicking the clock area in the bottom right hand corner of your screen.

Keyboard Shortcut: You can also bring up the Quick Settings Menu by pressing ALT + SHIFT + S on your Chromebook keyboard.

Secondly, click the Settings Gear at the top of the Quick Settings Menu.

Once in the Settings App, you can ask your Chromebook to check for updates by clicking the button marked "Check for updates."

Note: If your computer has downloaded an update and is ready to apply this update, this button will instead say "Restart."

Chromebook updates will begin to download if there are any available. You may also receive a message that your Chromebook is already on the latest version.

If you feel like you are not receiving the correct version of ChromeOS, please contact the IT Department.

Once your Chromebook is finished updating, you will receive the message:

"Nearly up to date! Restart your device to finish updating."

Press the Restart button to restart your Chromebook and apply the update.
