LOYF was established in May 2019 to work with the youth, assist schools, and provide resources to communities in need. To qualify for the scholarship college-bound senior students must meet the following requirements:


1. Historically Black College and University will receive preference

2. Major in one of the STEM disciplines or Criminal Justice

3. Have a GPA of 3.0+

First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton’s Young People's Bible Study Diversity-Based Scholarship


Seniors,


Members of First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton’s Young People's Bible Study have recently decided to offer a new diversity-based scholarship.

Annually, beginning this year, they would like to offer a one-time $1000 scholarship to a student who meets the following criteria:


-Black/African-American, Rutherford County senior who will be attending college or technical school anywhere in the country

-Has financial need

-Is involved in the community and school activities

-Has the potential to be a leader in the community


The deadline for the application and all required documents is April 5, 2022.

George H.V. Cecil Journey Scholarship

Hi, Seniors

The WNC Communities are offering the George H.V. Cecil Journey Scholarship for students who are.

planning to attend an accredited four or two year program. The eligibility details, criteria and instructions are listed below.

ELIGIBILITY FOR JOURNEY SCHOLARSHIP:
Applicant must live in one of the communities or participate in one of the community centers listed above.

o If not, you are not eligible to pursue this scholarship.
● Applicants must have at least a
3.0 unweighted grade point average to be considered.
● Only high school students eligible to be admitted into college can apply for this scholarship.
● Scholarships are for an accredited four or two year college program.
● Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, creed, sex, ethnic background, handicap or origin.

CRITERIA:
● Good character ▪ Academic ability and achievement
● Extracurricular activities ▪ Financial need
● Community service (outstanding contributions to school and community)

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Applications are available from the High School Guidance Office or Community Clubs listed above. ● Applicants only, not parents, must complete all the items on the checklist on the first page of the application.
● Application
must be reviewed and verified by an officer from a Community Club listed above. If your application is not verified by a Community Club Officer from one of the communities listed above, your application will not be accepted. If applicants are not certain who to contact, email gailparker@wnccommunities.org to request this information. Do not wait until the deadline to make your request; it will not be acknowledged.
● Deadline: Complete Application MUST be emailed by 11:59 P.M. Monday, March 21, 2022. If emailing your application is a hardship, please contact gailparker@wnccommunities.org no later than March 1 so we can arrange for you to mail it. Please note, however, that mailed applications must be received no later than March 21 to be considered. Given the recent slowdown in U.S. mail, please plan accordingly so that your application arrives on time.

Ms. Ruby Ham, Chairperson of the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of the New Hope Community sent out the following information for their scholarship:

The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of the New Hope Community is a 501 C3 Nonprofit Organization. Our mission is to: 1) Promote educational workshops on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s philosophy on nonviolence,2) Teach citizens how to become community leaders. 3) Sponsor field trips to other states and museums to enlighten their awareness, and 4) Ensure that the citizens of the community is aware of the resources available from the MLK Committee on the life and legacy of Dr. King. 5) Out reach for the community.

Scholarship Eligibility/Criteria

  • High school senior and live in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Legal resident of North Carolina and plan to attend a North Carolina accredited college, community college or technical institute.

  • Financial need

  • Have potential to excel as a leader

  • Be involved in school and community activities

Special consideration will be given to those applicants involved with Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of the New Hope Community

How to Apply

a. A brief narrative summarizing your activities, community service, work experiences, educational goals and what MLK Jr. means to you.

Gardner-Webb sent out the following information about their local scholarship opportunities:


The LeGrande-Ware Scholarship and the new Searight Multicultural Leadership Award are offered to Rutherford County students. The LeGrande-Ware Scholarship is geared towards student leaders who are looking to pursue a degree within our Godbold School of Business. The Searight Multicultural Award is geared towards first-generation college students who have a demonstrated financial need, demonstrated commitment to diversity, and an aptitude for leadership. The selected recipients will also participate in the new Searight Leadership Certificate program while enrolled at GWU.

Both applications are due by April 1st, 2022 and selected students will come to campus for interviews in early May.

The Bobby Chapman Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship (may or may not play golf)

Our school may submit FOUR applications for this scholarship. If you are interested, please read the guidelines and submit your completed application to Mrs. Street by Friday, March 11, 2022. Applicants may or may not play golf. Our school scholarship committee will review all applications and choose four to represent our school. Guidelines and applications may be have been sent out via email.

The student recipient is to be a person of good character, a person with demonstrated leadership capacity, a person who has acceptable academic promise and a person who promises to make a positive contribution as a mature citizen.

The student recipient will be expected to maintain a scholastic performance level that advances him/her to graduation. This is understood to be a grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.

The Bobby Chapman Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship Program will select ten (10) scholarship recipients per year out of all completed applications received. The scholarship will renew annually for four years of the college experience in the amount of $1,500 per year.

Pilot Club of Rutherford County is pleased to offer a $1000 scholarship each year, as funding allows, to a deserving high school student who is continuing his/her education. Pilot International Pilot International is a non-profit organization whose mission is to transform communities by developing youth, providing service and education, and uplifting families whose lives are affected by a brain related illness or injury. Pilot International envisions a world where all are valued.

The SECU Foundation "People Helping People" Scholarship applications are now available in guidance.

SECU has been gracious enough to award $10,000 to someone at RS Central High School!

All eligible high school seniors must meet the following requirements:


-Must be a senior at a NC public high school

-Must be a SECU member or is eligible for membership through a parent/guardian

-Must be a US citizen, a resident of NC, and eligible for in-state tuition

-Must be accepted to attend one of the 16 UNC system universities as a full-time undergraduate

-Must have demonstrated scholastic achievement with a 2.5 or highter unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale

-Must have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement

-Must file FAFSA as part of the application
