Keyboarding

Why Keyboarding

Students should have a base knowledge of proper keyboarding techniques. Student proficiency in keyboarding is part of the RCSD technology plan. In the spring of 2018, the RCSD LCAP Parent Advisory Committee recommended that additional funds be allocated to a coherent District-wide approach to keyboarding. After a thorough review process, EduTyping was selected as the program we will use for students in grades 1st-4th. EduTyping lessons that students pass in one grade level will transfer to the next grade level. Teachers and principals will be able to view all students' progress throughout the year. Students will be able to access this program at home for enrichment purposes.

While we value teaching keyboarding, we also know that when students do have time with technology they should spend that time creating. We encourage a balance of teaching typing skills while also allowing time to create and learn new digital literacy skills.
