EICH Science Olympiad

What is Science Olympiad?

Science Olympiad is a nationwide competition. Students compete in 23 events that include earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Science Olympiad is designed to increase a student’s interest in STEM fields and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in team events. Students compete in Science Olympiad with the top teams advancing from Regional to State to National levels.

Science Olympiad has 5 general categories involving both knowledge and design: Life, Personal & Social Science; Earth & Space Science; Physical Science & Chemistry; Technology & Engineering Design; and Inquiry & Nature of Science.

Eich is in Division B.

EICH Science Olympiad Team

The EICH Science Olympiad Team is designed to provide students opportunity to explore STEM areas, both individually and collaboratively, within a structured framework. Although there is a competition, we want to provide a supportive atmosphere where students can challenge themselves and learn from one another in a multitude of science and design categories. Science Olympiad aligns perfectly with our IB curriculum and philosophy.

It is open to students of all grades. Students must complete an application to be eligible to be part of the Eich Science Olympiad Team.

Application

General Information

The Science Olympiad has a formal competition usually held the first Saturday in March at Mira Loma High School (dates and location subject to verification and may change). It is a requirement for all Team members to be available and participate on the date of the competition. Transportation is the responsibility of each individual. Participating students will be responsible for any needed materials that are not available or on hand at the school. Meetings are tentatively every Tuesday from 2:15-4:00

Due to the expectations of Team members of the club and the limited space available, students and parents are required to complete an application. Many factors go into the decision to be a Team member, including availability, prior academic performance, reliability, and available space.
