School 46 After School Program

We are so excited to be offering several afterschool programs for our students to choose from. The program overviews and schedules are listed below.  You can learn more about each program by clicking on the program name.  This year we may be able to offer transportation!  Make sure to select the transportation option and provide the required information if you require this option for your child to participate.  Space is limited so enrollment is not guaranteed.  Spots are filled on a first come first served basis and you will receive a phone call from the school to confirm enrollment. 

Program Overview: Interested in coding? Want to find out what all of the buzz is about? Want to help close the gender gap? Join the School 46 Girls Who Code Club.  No coding experience needed!  Students will learn the basics of several coding languages, learn to work together as a team with other girls to complete projects, develop a safe community of coders while learning to be safe online, work on leadership skills and have the opportunity to meet influential women in coding. 

This program will be offered in two separate sessions. The first session will be for female students in Grades 2-6.  The second session starting in February will be for all students in grades K-2.

Program Overview: Curious and patient students wanted! Students will learn the basics of beekeeping, learn to render beeswax, make various crafts, and have hands-on experience in the bee yard in the spring. We will also choose a topic or topics to research that can help promote knowledge of honey bees and local pollinators. Our students will continue meeting in the fall of next school year to assist with extracting honey and preparing the bees for the winter. Registration will open In December.

Program Overview: This club is both for beginners and kids who already know how to play chess. We will learn how each piece moves, and different strategies like “the 4 move checkmate” and “fly against the wall.” We’ll have tournaments within the group, and possibly play kids at other schools.  This club will be offered in three separate groups one for students in grades 3-4 and the other for grades 5-6.

Program Overview: Children will learn about different types of energy sources, storage, distribution methods, and ways in which energy is consumed. It’s not just playing with LEGOs.  Students learn about LEGO League Core Values and the importance of team building.  Additionally, student’s learn how to program robots using the SPIKE robotics program. As a team, students build missions with LEGO pieces in order to program the robot to do SUPERPOWERED tasks.  This will be offered in three sessions that will service grades 1-6

Program Overview: Team and individual sports focusing on sportsmanship, team concepts, fitness, and participation. The sports will include basketball, football, soccer, mat ball, kickball, racket sports, whiffle ball, etc.

The nutrition piece will involve reading food labels, eating healthy, reducing sugar and salt, and learning nutrition vocabulary. We will be doing Science experiments based around food and beverages.

This club will be offered in two separate groups one for students in grades 3-4 and the other for grades 5-6.

Program Overview: Electronic Sports, takes on the form of organized, multiplayer, online video game competitions and is one of the fastest growing trends for youth engagement.  Through our Esports program, students are able to develop social, strategic and problem solving skills in a safe, moderated and inclusive environment.

This program will be offered in two separate sessions. The first session will be for students in Grades 3-6.  The second session starting in February will be for students in grades K-2.

Program Overview: New York State West Youth Soccer Association will be offering a Soccer Club in our school.  Two coaches will teach students and they will be providing all the equipment the students will need on campus outside or inside depending the weather.
