The Rochester City School District is pleased to announce a wonderful opportunity for 6th-grade students. Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, 6th-grade students will participate in the Junior Achievement Biztown experience. This experience provides students with both in-class experiences centered around financial literacy and work and career readiness. The experience culminates in a visit to the Paychex Junior Achievement Discovery Center at Kodak Park. Here, at JA Biztown, students will use what they learned during 14 lessons delivered by the classroom teacher before the trip, students will “allow elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students can connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.”
Target Group: 6th-grade students in the Rochester City School District.
Purpose: To provide students with financial literacy and work/career readiness skills.
Culmination: A visit to the Paychex Junior Achievement Discovery Center at Kodak Park, where students apply their classroom learning in a simulated economy.
Citizenship and Community Roles: Understanding roles as citizens, workers, and consumers.
Free Enterprise System: Basic understanding and importance of citizen rights and responsibilities.
Money Management: Practical knowledge of economic concepts and banking practices.
Business Practices: Understanding basic business responsibilities.
Soft Skills: Necessary for successful participation in the workforce.
Transportation: Coordinated by Central Office.
Dress Code: Professional attire and weather-appropriate clothing.
Parental Consent: Bring signed forms.
Lunch: Central Office will coordinate. Please get lunches from school cafeteria prior to departure. JA Staff will help unload upon arrival.

9:15 - Depart school
9:30 - Arrive at Biztown
9:45 - Business start-up
10:15 - Opening town meeting
10:30 - Staff meetings
10:45 - Banking and lunch rotations
11:30 - Staff meetings
11:50 - Shopping rotations
12:35 - Business clean-up
1:00 - Closing town meeting
1:15 - Depart Biztown
1:30 - Return to school

Complete and personalize field trip forms (A part of the eLearning).
Obtain curriculum (either by attending an open house or coordinating with Central Office for delivery) and teacher the 14 lessons

Respond to Junior Achievement’s email about job assignments.
Be sure to get lunches
Ensure student behavior is managed.
Bring signed parental consent forms.
Conduct post-program survey.
Reflect on the experience with students.
