April 22 2020 Letter

On its way!

Hello Parents,

To the right is the letter that was mailed home this weekend.  The two pages provide information on the work we are doing during and in between our Zoom sessions.

The second page includes a strongly suggested schedule for your child to help them succeed with the online learning.

Thinking of you and your children

Dear Parents,

Sharing a little personal and school information here on resources.  First, I hope your children, you and your families are all well.  The challenges present to you and your children are extreme at this time.  Myself and the support staff at Pinnacle School #35 are here for you and your children.  My three children are now in their mid to late 20s.  While they were in elementary and high school I told them to use their resources for information;  parents and family first, then teachers and finally friends.  I want your child to succeed in life.  Spending 6+ hours a day while school was in session, it is easy to become attached to them. They are wonderful, funny, smart and challenging.  I'm always available to speak with you by phone, text or email regarding school work and social emotional issues you may need to discuss with respect to your children.

Some personal information: My parents emigrated to Rochester, New York in 1964, with $6 two kids and one on the way; just as the Rochester Race Riots of '64 were sweeping our city.  We lived on Remington Street where my father walked to Hickey Freeman each day for work as a tailor.  My parents left a country due to religious discrimination and while not as oppressive as the discrimination present here for African Americans and Latinos, it provided my parents and my siblings with a heightened sense of empathy for oppressed people.

This afternoon I will share the information with your children on the Rochester Youth Zoom Meeting.  I plan to attend as a teacher, father and citizen.  I'll encourage your children to Zoom in with you.
