My name is Ms. Bruce and I will be your child’s special education teacher for this school year. I wanted to take this time to introduce myself to those of you who do not know me and to welcome your child to the 8th grade. This is a big year and it is my goal to help support you both with whatever you need.
This is my third year at John Williams School No. 5, and I am excited to be moving up with many of your children to continue the hard work we began together last year. For those of you who are new to my class, I am excited that you are here! COVID-19 has brought about significant challenges for students, parents, and teachers alike. Due to concerns of increased spread and our necessity to keep your family safe, instruction will be entirely virtual until otherwise decided. This creates a unique set of challenges for us to overcome, but I want you to know that I, along with your child’s content teachers, am here to support you and your family to the best of my ability.
As you probably already know, middle school comes with a unique set of learning expectations meant to help your child foster more independence and adapt to the coming demands of high school. Your child is enrolled in an integrated co-teaching classroom, which at the middle school level means that I will be working closely with all of their core content area teachers in order to help them be most successful. Your child will have a different content teacher for each class and will be expected to follow different rituals and routines in these classes. It is important for us all to work together in order to help your child succeed.
