What will we be learning?
Our primary task is to learn the content that will prepare you for college level math. We will mostly be studying variable relationships using functions and problem solving strategies unique to different families of functions.
Along the way, we will also learn how to be better students. This means we will be working on skills that are not math specific (reading, writing, questioning, time management, organization, reflection, communication, and collaboration), but are useful in high school and essential for college.
What will we be doing to prepare for college?
You will learn to be responsible for your own learning. Successful college students:
Are aware of their level of understanding
Reflect on their strengths and weaknesses
Persist with novel, difficult, or ambiguous tasks
Identify, select, and use a range of learning strategies
Transfer learning from familiar settings to new ones
You will improve your study skills. Successful college students:
Effectively manage their time
Prepare for exams
Use information resources
Take class notes
Communicate with teachers
Participate in study groups
Which online tools will we be using?
Google Classroom - Announcements, scheduling, feedback, communication, and grading will all be done here. All codes, links, and resources will be shared too. Read your email daily!
Desmos Classroom - This is our interactive classroom space. This is where we will collaborate and practice each day.
DeltaMath - Most lessons will include a short problem set for practicing the lesson skills. This will be completed during class time.
How will we be graded?
You will be graded on how skilled you are with the content and how good of a student you are. Grades will be accessible in Google Classroom. Here are the percentages:
40% Tests
10% Assignments
50% Classwork
Classwork - Each class will follow a consistent pattern. We will complete a short lesson together and you will work collaboratively to complete a related problem set.
Homework - Each lesson will include a homework assignment in DeltaMath that includes instructional videos and practice exercises. The practice exercises are graded.
Tests - Assessments will be given in class. You will receive a percentage grade for the work completed by the due date.
