We are all stakeholders in the future of our youth.
As a parent or guardian, you play an essential role in your scholar's well-being and our shared school community. We encourage you to actively participate in your scholar's education by supporting them at home, communicating with your scholar's teachers, joining the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Committee, or attending school events.

2024-2025 Welcome Letter (English)
Greetings, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back to school. My name is Angel Alicea, and I am the Home-School Assistant for East Upper and Lower Schools, in partnership with the University of Rochester. It is indeed a pleasure to work together with you in support of our scholars’ success. This letter is simply to introduce myself to you, as I will be supporting the school, families and scholars as we work together towards achieving educational success.
My responsibility is to help parents/guardians with navigating the educational system and involving them in parent learning opportunities. One of the goals of EAST is to provide families and community members with programs and resources to support each scholar’s success. In order to make this philosophy a reality, East has a Family and Community Engagement (FACE) committee. The FACE committee is made up of East parents, family members, community members, scholars, teachers, administrators, and staff. The goal of FACE is to maximize scholars learning and development by using the strengths of the school, community, and families.
Our first day of school will be Thursday, September 5, 2024. I am very pleased to be able to work with you and your child in this upcoming school year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via telephone at (585) 288-3130 ext. 1001, via email at Angel.Alicea1@rcsdk12.org, or stop by my desk in the East Main Office. I look forward to working with you and our scholars in this new school year.

The Community Café Project at East represents a transformative approach to community engagement–rooted in authentic dialogue and collaboration–within the framework of our community school. Drawing inspiration from the Be Strong Families Parent Café model, which RTFA’s Whole Child Initiative successfully rolled out in 2023, East EPO’s Community Cafés serve as a sanctuary for fostering genuine connections among scholars, families, staff, and community partners. This initiative aims to broaden the circle of support for scholars by establishing a safe, respectful space where diverse stakeholders can gather to explore meaningful questions. Facilitators prioritize creating an environment where every contribution is not only encouraged, but also deeply valued. East EPO began rolling out community cafes in December 2023 and will continue in 2024.

Every year we survey families about what school-related topics you would to learn more about. In previous years, we held a monthly Family Learning Activity on a topic chosen by you.
Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, we are transitioning to a virtual Family Learning Library, an online archive that will be accessible for families and scholars at all times on a variety of topics. These topics are still a result of our annual surveys and family feedback.
Topics include:
Graduation Requirements
NCAA Requirements
Financial Literacy
Chronic Absenteeism
College Do’s & Don’ts
Family Engagement
Job Readiness
Goal Setting
We are always looking for feedback! If you have any suggestions for a topic you'd like to see covered, please don't hesitate to reach out.
It's more important than ever to ensure that we have your up-to-date contact information. If your phone, email, or address ever changes, please let us know.
