Monthly newsletter
Dear Wilson Families,
We are excited to be your 5th grade teachers this school year!
We’ve had a busy and exciting start to our new school year working on building relationships and reviewing “The Wilson Way” – being Respectful, Responsible and Safe!
ELA:
· Fifth Grade is learning about Human Rights while focusing on close reading, comprehension skills, new vocabulary and citing text evidence.
· Our essential focus question for this marking period will be: “How do journeys change us?”
· Scholars should be reading EVERY NIGHT for at least 20 minutes.
Math: We have started our unit on Place Value. Remind your child to continue to review and practice their multiplication and division skills during their Asynchronous (Independent) time.
IB Learner Profile: This month we will focus on being “principled”. We will be reading the story Be Kind by Pat Zietlo Miller and discuss what it means to be principled. You can listen to a read aloud here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAo4-2UzgPo
A little bit about your teachers!
Mr. Brundage has taught in the RCSD since 2006, after teaching 5th grade in Rochester, Wheatland-Chili and Houston, TX. He started at WFA as a French teacher, then was able to transition to Elementary for the past 3 years. This past year has been a bit of a roller coaster being moved to East High Lower School last year in December. He is so happy to be able to return to Wilson Foundation and continue teaching with Mrs. Zoller beginning Monday, September 21st.
Mrs. Zoller has been with the Rochester City District since the fall of 2003. She started out as a substitute teacher and then moved on to becoming a special education teacher in the spring of 2004. She has worked at School 14, School 12 and here at Wilson Foundation Academy. She has worked with students in grades Kindergarten thru Grade 8. Mrs. Zoller lives with her family in Henrietta. Her daughter is beginning 7th grade while her son is beginning 4th grade this school year. She enjoys quality time with her family and enjoying a good book in the sunshine.
We are so very excited to be working with your children this school year and can’t wait to see you online!
Thank you for all your support!
Sincerely,
Mr. Brundage & Mrs. Zoller
