Intro to Biomedical & Health Sciences

Course overview

Scholars will engage in fundamental concepts of Biomedical & Health Sciences . This survey course will begin with the focus on the vast career pathway of medical and allied health professions. Scholars will then explore each of the human body systems, including both structure and function with the emphasis on the emergence of diseases and disorders. To complete the course, scholars study skills to maintain health and wellness. Scholars will also be provided the opportunity to become trained and certified in Basic Life Support (CPR, First Aid, AED, FBAO).

Long Term Discipline Goals:

• Utilize critical thinking to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

• Demonstrate creativity and innovation while applying appropriate academic and technical skills to produce work that meets college and workplace standards.

• Work productively in teams while using cultural/global competence; acting as a responsible and contributing citizen and employee.

• Be able to plan for and pursue education and training that is aligned to their personal and professional goals.

Long Term Course Goals:

• Research and gather pertinent information from varied sources to create a clear and coherent message

• Effectively communicate based on purpose, task, and audience using appropriate vocabulary and conventions

• Implement critical thinking, reasoning, and decision making skills to develop a career plan based on interests, strengths, and aspirations

• Integrate technical knowledge skills and understanding in a constantly evolving environment for professional/personal growth in a competitive society

• Demonstrate professionalism through exhibiting attentiveness, growing from feedback, continuing to make a good impression, and adhering to Biomedical and Health Science industry standards
