What do I eat?

We all want to look great and more importantly, feel great. How much do food and exercise impact how we feel? The answer is a lot! You are what you eat. So what should we eat to stay healthy? The answer is the fresher the better. You want to try to eat foods that will go bad if they stay out on your counter. Fruits and vegetables should take up at least half of your plate. Whole grains are better for you if they are darker. Brown breads and rice have more fiber and take longer to digest providing more energy in the long run and better news for your digestive system. Beans, nuts, fish, and chicken that is not fried are leaner healthy sources of protein. Dairy in small amounts will deliver calcium and vitamin D that our bones need to be strong. So how do you do this? Start by adding a fruit and vegetable to one meal a day. Stick with this for a week and the next week add it to another meal, replacing an unhealthy grain or protein (mac and cheese, white rice or pasta or fried food) with a healthy one. Each week add a new healthy food to your menu and before you know it you are passing up Doritos for apples, celery and peanut butter voluntarily.
