Students who have a 504 plan will be provided modifications and accommodations as appropriate in the online learning environment. Parent and teacher input is essential in knowing what services are needed. Staff will be contacting parents on a weekly basis to help with completion and turning in assignments for the Continuity of Learning.

Third Quarter Report Cards: RCPS has waived 3rd quarter report cards.


Continuity of Learning Grading - The emphasis of the Continuity of Learning is to keep all children engaged in learning. The resources and assignments teachers are providing for students cover content that may not have been taught prior to the shutdown of schools. Students need interaction with the content so that when they enter the next grade (ex. 3rd to 4th grade) or the next course (ex. Algebra I to Geometry) they are able to build upon what was learned previously. The activities and assignments support the untaught standards and will give all students a stronger foundation. Therefore, we strongly encourage all students, regardless of the number of points they can and will collect, to complete the continuity of work that their teachers are offering.

All students have a yearly average at this time. That grade (Y1) or (S2) for some DE coursed can be found through the Parent Portal. Your child can improve their yearly average by completing all 4 weekly assignments as long as each one meets the teacher’s expectations. The points can be collected in this way:

  • 36 Assignments completed and met teacher expectations = 10 points

  • 27-35 Assignments completed and met teacher expectations = 8 points

  • 18-26 Assignments completed and met teacher expectations = 6 points

  • 9-17 Assignments completed and met teacher expectations = 4 points

  • 4-8 Assignments completed and met teacher expectations = 2 points

Students can add 2-10 points to their final grade as a result of completing 4-36 assignments. For example, if a student has a yearly average of 93 on March 6th, he/she could do all 36 assignments, collect 10 points and end the year with a 103 in the course.

Please note that the 103 is not calculated into the student’s GPA. The final grade of 103 equals an A (see the chart below) and is worth 4 GPA points for all regular and DEAP courses and worth 5 GPA points for AP or DE classes. A student’s grade point average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the total amount of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted. Your grade point average may range from 0.0 to a 4.0. GPA and is not directly affected by the numeric grade. All high school courses and courses taken prior to the ninth grade which are considered to be high school courses (Algebra I, Spanish I, etc.) are calculated in the GPA.

Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment (DE) courses are weighted and calculated on a 5.0 scale. Participating in and achieving 5 GPA points for a grade of A in these course offerings provides students the opportunity to raise their GPA above the 4.0 mark. Again, the numeric grade translates into a letter grade which is then converted to GPA points. See the information below.
