Moving Forward - Next Steps

NEXT STEPS:

  • Provide all families the RCPS 2022-2023 Grading System information through this google site and as a printed document. The grading system created is to provide clear communication to all stakeholders including students, families, teachers, and administrators. The use of it during the 2022-2023 school year will help RCPS find the right fit for the school community.

  • Gather grading data and analyzing the information to determine if the 40-100 point grade scales

appropriately represents a student's performance.

  • Encourage all stakeholders to participate in the "next steps" of this process. The process will include light reading of research on a monthly basis provided to the all community stakeholders through this site.

  • Provide progress updates through this site.

  • Deliver three stakeholder surveys throughout the school year and post results through this site.

  • Study and discuss a system the would communicate to families their child's level of success with work-based expectations and skills. The division would work with area colleges, universities, employers, and teachers to identify desirable attributes (example: dependability, punctuality, ability to complete a task within a deadline, ability to problem solve and communicate effectively, etc.). Once the desirable attributes are identified, RCPS would work to create a skills progress system (PreK-12) as well as grade rubrics to communicate to the school community the work-based behavioral expectations and the levels of proficiency. Some people refer to this process as assigning a student a "Grit" score.
