Common School Funds
The library media centers are primarily funded through common school funds, which are used to purchase books, databases, makerspace materials, technology, magazines and other items as allowed by the state of Wisconsin for the library. Each library media technology specialist purchases materials that support both classroom teachers and students, targeting their unique population, interests, and needs. Each district receives an allocation based on resident population of children ages 4-20 (school census) and the per child amount determined by the state after considering available funds and district counts. An estimate is given to school districts in January and the final payment is made in April. As a school district, funds are split between each library media technology specialst based on their building(s) student count in September.
