New Jersey state graduation requirements for the classes of 2026
Student score reports from the Spring 2025 administration were mailed home in July 2025. Students' reports explained whether your student met the graduation cut scores of 725 in ELA and mathematics. As of July 1, 2025, the state department of education has yet to adopt official graduation requirements for the class of 2026. Under state guidance, we are to proceed as if the past requirements are still in effect. This may change if the proposed new code is presented to the state board of education.
Past requirements for the class of 2025 : If your student did not meet the graduation requirements but took the test in March 2025, they can access the second pathway for graduation (linked here). If your student did not meet either the 1st or 2nd pathway for graduation, I have sent a notification, as outlined in the attached letter, to the score reports. Students can retake the NJGPA by opting in on this form and taking the SAT on a school day in October. The Form will be open for retest options until September 22nd. Parents will be notified of the testing outcome when the state releases the scores. Students who still do not meet the proficiency scores will be enrolled in a pull-out portfolio program starting in January 2026.
