OUTSTANDING GRADE 1

Teaching can be defined as engagement with learners to enable their understanding and application of knowledge, concepts and processes. It includes design, content selection, delivery, assessment and reflection.

To teach is to engage students in learning; thus, teaching consists of getting students involved in the active construction of knowledge. Facilitators at RBKIA not only impart knowledge of subject matter, but also reconstruct it to motivate young students to become active learners.

The facilitator demonstrated through different mediums the understanding of the line of symmetry, after which the learners gave evidence of their learning.

Activity based learning: Learners of Grade 1 were asked to draw a spin wheel with an inner and outer circle. In the inner circle they had to write a smaller number and in the outer circle a bigger number. The learners would then add both the numbers mentally and write down the answer. Facilitators modeled the activity to students and the students then took it further giving evidence of their learning.
