Location & Site Resources
The rescue operates on a working farm located in the Northern Neck of Virginia. In addition to stimulation and enrichment courtesy of the farm environment, the rescue location sits upon 20+ wooded acres, and is within a short driving distance of pet-friendly beaches and restaurants. The working farm and its associated livestock are critical to the training and rehabilitation of the livestock guardian dogs in particular, but they do wonders for exposure and desensitization training for the companion dogs as well. The wooded areas offer both training opportunities and mental enrichment for the animals in our care. Just like for us humans, time at the beach is a great way for the animals to unwind and enjoy life. Many of the rescue and resident dogs enjoy swimming, water retrieval exercises, and a safe, non-destructive outlet for some good old fashioned digging.Â
The resident animals are key in rehabilitating the rescue dogs that come through Razor's Edge Rescue. Our resident animals teach by example, help fearful animals build confidence, and assist caretakers in discovering the drives and interests present in new rescue animals. The personalities of our resident animals are quite varied, so no matter the personality of a new arrival, there's usually a good peer mentor waiting for them at the rescue.
