Gifted and Talented Services
Raymondville I.S.D. addresses the needs of gifted students in grades K-12 in accordance with The Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted and Talented Students and through a program approved by the Board of Trustees.
Elementary
In Elementary, the district will provide differentiated instruction to students during a designated pull out time such as Power Hour. The instructional delivery will be developmentally appropriate and the content will be related to broad-based issues, themes, and/or problems. Students will be served in an array of appropriately challenging learning experiences in each of the four (4) foundation curricular areas.Additionally, the curriculum is differentiated by the implementation of The Texas Performance Standards Project. These curricular units are TEKS based and incorporate the CCRS for grades K-5. Services for identified GT students in kindergarten shall begin prior to March 1st.
Secondary
In grades 6-12, GT students will be served in homogeneous settings, with sufficient numbers of able learners identified from the top of the able learner list to fill the Advanced Academics class. The able learners list will be compiled from observation checklist (nomination form, grades in the core areas, and state assessment results). The service requirements will be met through Honors, AP classes and dual-enrollment. Using the guidelines set by the Texas Performance Standards Project, gifted and talented students in secondary program will participate in independent learning experiences and research projects that are aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in the content areas of English language arts and reading, mathematics, science, and social studies with interdisciplinary connections.
