Our Year 2 children have been thoroughly enjoying their topic on The Great Fire of London this half term. To bring their learning to life, we were delighted to welcome Rainbow Theatre to our school for an exciting drama workshop!
The children stepped back in time to 1666, taking on key roles and re-enacting important moments from the Great Fire. From singing “London’s Burning” to (pretend!) bucket chains and speedy line rehearsals, they truly immersed themselves in the experience.
It was a wonderful way to end the topic—full of energy, teamwork, and lots of laughter!

Autumn 2
Fire Safety
During Autumn 2, Year 2 had a special visit from a firefighter who came to talk with the children about fire safety. She explained the importance of having a working fire alarm at home and making a simple family fire plan so everyone knows what to do in an emergency. The children were full of curiosity, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their own experiences. It was a memorable and meaningful session, and we’re grateful for the time she spent helping Year 2 learn how to stay safe.

Children in Need Day
Our Year 2 classes took part in a lively Strictly 25 Steps Challenge in support of Children in Need. We turned the hall into a mini disco, where both classes enjoyed a fun-filled dance-off, following the 25 dance steps with great energy and enthusiasm. The challenge brought plenty of smiles, teamwork, and shining dance moves!
Through the event, the children learned about the important work Children in Need does to support young people and families across the UK. They gained a deeper understanding of why fundraising matters and how their efforts can help make a difference to others.
Taking part in the Strictly 25 Steps Challenge not only encouraged fitness and confidence, but also helped our pupils develop empathy, kindness, and a sense of community—key values we promote throughout our school.
Winter/Christmas Decorations
Our Year 2 children have been busy getting into the festive spirit by making their very own winter and Christmas tree ornaments from salt dough! They carefully shaped and painted each one, adding plenty of sparkle at our very popular Glitter Station. The classroom was filled with excitement (and a little bit of glitter!), and the children were so proud of their colourful, twinkling creations. We can’t wait to see their ornaments hanging up for the holidays!

Spring 1
A Visit To The Pumphouse Museum
As part of our transport topic this half term, Transport Through the Years, Year 2 visited the Pumphouse Museum for a hands-on learning experience. The children were excited to see a real steam train and enjoyed learning about how trains work. They explored how transport has changed over time, including seeing a model of one of the first cars, made by Frederick Bremer, as well as a penny farthing.
The children also had the opportunity to explore cogs, bikes and machines to help them understand how things move, and they especially enjoyed dressing up as firefighters. One of the highlights of the day was seeing the huge pump used by steam trains. It was a valuable and enjoyable trip that supported our learning in class and sparked lots of curiosity and discussion back at school.
