The Roger Ascham School Council is the official voice of the pupils, representing everyone from EYFS to Year 6. We meet regularly to share ideas, discuss issues, and work together to suggest improvements that make our school community better for everyone.
The Council ensures that every child’s voice is heard, giving pupils an active role in shaping the school. We are proud that our children feel like a key part of the community and can see their ideas enact positive change!
The School Council is a democratic body composed of representatives from across the school:
Elected Representatives: We have two elected representatives from every class in Years 1 through 6.
Early Years Voice: Discussions held in our EYFS classes (Nursery and Reception) are collected and shared by the teachers to ensure the voice of our youngest pupils is heard, too!
At the start of every academic year, we hold official School Council elections in each classroom. This process is a great opportunity to teach our pupils about the importance of democracy as they listen to speeches, debate ideas, and cast their vote to decide on their class representatives.
The School Council focuses on a wide range of issues to improve school life. Our work involves:
Sharing Ideas: Representatives gather ideas, suggestions, and concerns from their classmates to bring forward for discussion at our meetings.
Do you have an idea, a suggestion for a change, or a concern you want the Council to discuss?
Talk to Your Reps: Find out who your class representatives are (they usually have a special badge or you can check the school display).
Share Your Idea: Give them your feedback during your class discussion time.
