Picture a librarian from the movies... hair in a bun, glasses, stern look, finger poised and ready to shush? Now erase that image completely! Libraries are no longer a silent place with stern rules and cozy storytimes (though we do still enjoy a good book!) Modern libraries are a hub of learning where everyone is welcome to borrow and share information. Libraries are no longer just a place to read about others' ideas, but a place to create your own! The RAS Library Learning Commons strives to be a place full of life, learning, and activity where all feel welcome and safe to explore, make mistakes, and grow.
Of course libraries still have books! We're here to help you find the ones you'll LOVE.
Students may checkout up to 10 books depending on their grade level. Students are encouraged to keep their library materials in their backpacks for safekeeping!
Check out our catalog to see the selection.
Teachers: email us to submit book requests. We deliver!
Libraries aren't JUST about the books! We have many additional resources to help you in your quest for knowledge!
And if you are really ready to transform from a consumer to a producer, check out our Makerspace. This is a zone where you can create, engineer, and tinker.

Teachers: email us to book time in the makerspace!
In addition to free use of the space, the library staff collaborates with the teachers to design and implement lessons that support classroom learning while teaching students the important subject of information literacy.
What is information literacy? It is the ability to seek and find the appropriate information one needs to solve problems and share this new knowledge with others with integrity. Find out more about library standards.

Reading is, of course, SUPER important to us here in the library! While we encourage reading and provide access to awesome books for every reader, we are not reading teachers. So what do we teach? See the full set of standards for library learners below, but the gist is... we teach kids how to find and use information, otherwise known as information literacy! We also want to empower kids to combine information literacy skills with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) while using the engineering design process to create and share their learning.
