It was a joy to share our maple sugaring journey with our families and friends as we gathered together for Maple Fest on Friday. We kicked off the event with Grandmother Maple shedding her winter quilt for spring medals, created by the Bluebird and Sunny buddy pairs to celebrate the achievements of the maple trees this season. After singing together in the amphitheater, the children led their loved ones through Choice Time, with each class offering activities that served as lenses through which the group engaged in maple sugaring work this year. That work itself was also on display in multiple “Maple Museums” throughout the space. We also got to inaugurate the Sugar Shack! Pancakes aplenty were available for anyone working up an appetite, accompanied by our Grade R(Randolph-made) maple syrup. The sweet result of weeks of hard work in the sugar bush, it felt so good to kick up our heels and celebrate with our community. Being a nature-based school, there isn't much time to rest on our laurels. As we pack up the buckets and store the sap cooler for next year, we can already hear the siren song of the garden calling our names and inviting us to continue our yearly cycle of exploration and learning.
