What are ACPs?

Randall students are engaged in a variety of career development activities as we work on Academic and Career Planning (or ACP). That is why our ACPs are a student-driven, adult-supported process. Students create their own unique plan for high school, and postsecondary success. Their process is information-based, and obtained through both self and career exploration. The students develop a Career Portfolio using the Career Cruising web-based portal. This portfolio will follow each student to their chosen high school at the end of 8th grade.

Research on the benefits of this process indicate that the ACP process increases student motivation, engagement, school connection, and awareness of individual strengths and weaknesses. Students utilizing Academic and Career Plans also improve their understanding of postsecondary options, better connect their goals to educational coursework and career goal activities, and engage in long-term planning for life after high school graduation.

Academic and Career Plans refer to both a process in which each student engages in academic and career development activities. It also refers to their Career Cruising portfolio that they create and maintain. This portfolio contains academic, career, and personal achievements. Starting at the end of 8th grade the students will also use this portfolio to develop a personalized plan for the classes they will take in high school. Career Cruising helps the students align their plans with the high school graduation requirements, along with requirements of post-secondary schools they are interested in attending in the future. Randall students will learn how to do this during their 8th grade year. Additional information about ACP can be found HERE.

The Career Cruising Program is provided by the Department of Public Instruction to Wisconsin schools for students in grades 6-12.
