AREAS OF IDENTIFICATION:
Intellectually Gifted:
Students in this area must have cognitive abilities that are in the 90th percentile or higher and show high levels of problem-solving abilities and divergent thinking skills. Typically they are several years beyond their peers in ability.
*SOAR - Identified students (using scores from the Cognitive Abilities Test) participate in weekly SOAR class where they continue to work on a variety of skills and needs. This includes creative problem solving, academic competitions, and social/emotional learning geared towards giftedness.
Academically Gifted:
Students in this area demonstrate exceedingly high abilities in one or more specific academic areas.
*Enrichment groups are created for students scoring in the 70th percentile or higher. These groups meet twice a week for reading/writing, and twice a week for math.
Visual & Performing Arts:
Students who demonstrate unusual adeptness or skill in one of these areas: music and/or art, would be considered for these programs:
*Music Excel- Vocally talented students - Will begin Fall of 2024
*Art Excel- Specialized art for students with exceptional artistic skills. The student's art skills are 2 or more years advanced than their grade level. - Will begin Fall of 2024
Creativity:
This crosses many of the other areas, but shows itself in a strong ability to originate products or ideas.
Leadership:
This is for students who demonstrate the ability to lead and/or are considered leaders by others. These students tend to be self-confident and comfortable with their peers.
*Peer Helpers-Students supporting new students or assisting existing students as needed from a peer level.
*Student Council-Service and leadership organization for students in grades 6-8.
*National Junior Honor Society for students in grades 6-8.
