Course Information

Course Description:

Grade six focuses on evaluating how values, motivations and interactions of individuals and nations impacts the development and success of civilizations. The course bridges a study of World History in 5th grade with a study of American History in 7th grade. Students begin the year by exploring the Medieval World and transition to the founding of the United States, promoting both global awareness and an appreciation of our country's heritage. Students are provided opportunities to develop a global perspective and cultural competency which will enable them to recognize complexity in the world. Students become increasingly aware of the role of active citizens and the need to respect and defend basic human rights. The study of the past creates a parallel appreciation and awareness of the present. This is accomplished by discussing and studying current events and helping students to become responsible and contributing members of their community.
