Grant Funding
The Ramapo College of New Jersey Climate Change Learning Collaborative is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Education. This material and any opinions, results, conclusions, or recommendations expressed within are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the views of the New Jersey Department of Education nor constitute an endorsement thereof.
The overarching goals of this grant program are to:
Establish a statewide network to support LEAs in implementing climate change education initiatives through the creation of regional (northern, central, southern) CCLCs at New Jersey IHEs, with the support of CBOs engaged in place-based environmental education in each region.
Increase the number and content-area diversity of K-12 educators well prepared to teach high quality, standards-aligned climate change education.
Professional Development: Ramapo College of New Jersey (CCLC) and the CBO partners will provide professional development events that will support LEAs with the implementation of the NJSLS
Instructional materials: The CCLC will assist LEAs in identifying and developing high quality,
standards-aligned, interdisciplinary instructional materials (e.g., project-based unit plans,
teaching tools, and activities).
Instructional opportunities: The CCLC will assist LEAs in identifying and developing locally
focused, high quality, standards-aligned, interdisciplinary instructional opportunities (e.g., local experiential learning opportunities for students)
Technical assistance: The CCLC will provide LEAs with technical assistance related to their climate change education initiatives.
Evaluation strategies: The CCLC will assist LEAs in utilizing self-assessment tools to determine their progress towards full implementation of the NJSLS via locally focused, high quality, standards-aligned, interdisciplinary instruction and setting goals for improvement.
The Ramapo College has partnered with three CBOs (Meadowlands Environment Center, NJ School of Conservation, Great Swamp Watershed Association) that are engaged in locally focused environmental education in their region to support culturally responsive and place based professional development, experiential learning opportunities, and technical assistance.
The CCLC has partnered with LEAs that receive FY 2024 climate change education grant opportunities administered by the Program Office.
The CCLC will provide LEAs within their region multiple opportunities to network, collaborate, and innovate with fellow educators at neighboring LEAs and CBOs engaged in locally focused environmental education in their region to foster the development of a statewide climate change education support network.
Regional CCLC promotion: The CCLC will promote their services to recruit and engage LEAs.
CCLC culminating event: The CCLC will plan and coordinate a CCLC-wide culminating event at the end of the project period to showcase the work completed by CCLC staff and the CBO and LEA partners.
