What is the Sports Premium?
Schools have a central role to play in supporting all children and young people to live healthy active lives. This is particularly true of primary schools where the foundations of positive and enjoyable participation in regular physical activity should be established.
Crucial to achieving this is ensuring that pupils have access to at least 30 minutes of physical activity during the school day, alongside high-quality PE provision taught by confident and knowledgeable teachers and opportunities to experience and participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities. PE and sport premium grant funding should be used by schools towards these aim
This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Radford Primary Academy provides a wide variety of physical activities for pupils, both during the school day and through extra-curricular clubs. Clubs are run for all year groups in KS1 and KS2. Through sport and other physical activities, they learn to increase their body control, coordination, dexterity, fitness and skill levels in a wide range of sports. Pupils also learn about their responsibilities both as individuals and members of teams. They learn to cooperate and compete fairly.
Our PE curriculum focuses on pupils developing a range of physical skills and improved body control through a range of gymnastic, dance and games activities, as well as outdoor and adventurous activities, athletics and swimming. The children are encouraged to enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle, responding positively to challenges and developing self-confidence and physical capabilities. Pupils learn about their changing bodies and the importance of nutrition and rest for a healthy, balanced lifestyle.Â
