At Radford Primary Academy, we endeavour to inspire a passion of life-long learning of rich and varied literature, providing all of our children with the opportunity to become effective and creative communicators, through spoken and written language.

We recognise the importance of creating and sustaining a culture, where children take pride in their writing, adapt their language and style for a range of contexts, therefore allowing them to write clearly and accurately for a purpose. We aim to inspire children to be enthusiastic and independent learners in the art of speaking and listening, and use discussion to communicate and further their learning. We believe that children need to develop a secure knowledge-base in English, which follows a clear pathway of progression, as they advance through the primary curriculum. We believe that a secure basis in English skills is crucial to a high-quality education and will give our children the tools they need to explore the world around them and participate fully as members of society.

Our aims are embedded across our ambitious, creative and innovative English lessons and through the wider curriculum. We have a rigorous English curriculum that provides purposeful opportunities for reading, writing and discussion. A range of high- quality contemporary and classic texts have been carefully chosen to enrich the teaching and learning in every year group and provides memorable and enriching experiences for our pupils. Our tailored curriculum meets the needs of all learners and follows the aims of the National Curriculum for English 2014. Teachers also ensure that cross curricular links with concurrent topic work are woven into the sequential programme of study.Â
