Mrs. Kilby's Class

Welcome to 2nd grade!  My name is Carla Kilby and I am excited to have you on my team this year.  I look forward to meeting you and your family and getting to know all about you.  Our learning adventure is about to begin! 

Let me tell you a little about your safari guide.  I am a native of Rabun County. I have over 28 years of teaching experience. I am a mom and a grandmother. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Science degree in Elementary Reading and Early Literacy.  I also hold Reading, Math, and Science Endorsements.

We have an exciting year ahead of us!  Our year will be filled with many fun, interesting, and challenging learning experiences to help you learn and grow. My Mission statement for my classroom for this school year is as follows:   I will empower students so they reach their full potential. I will create a learning environment which emphasizes cooperation, respect, and trust. A sense of self-worth will be instilled in each student by focusing on their positive attributes.

The words “I can’t” are never used in my class, instead we say “I can” or “I’ve tried my best, and now I need some help”. Every student is capable of learning, although not everyone learns at the same speed. I use varying teaching strategies throughout the day in order to accommodate each different learning style
