When: Tuesday and Thursday evenings. All matches will be via tee times, so please check the schedule page for more information. Tuesday tee times will start at 4:30 pm and Thursday tee times will start at 5:00 pm. If you need to move a tee time, you MUST coordinate directly with the other captains involved. The golf shop will NOT coordinate tee time changes for league.
Divisions: This year we will have two divisions: American and National. Each division will have 7 teams. There will be a regular season winner for each division. Playoffs will involve the top 4 teams in each division playing until the finals, which will involve each division playoff winner.
What: 4-man teams play 9-hole individual matches. Play will be from the White Tees for ages 69 and under. Ages 70 and over may opt to play from the Green Tees. This choice must be made at the beginning of the season and cannot be changed mid-season. Handicaps will be adjusted accordingly.
Schedule: Regular League season begins March 17th. Playoffs once the regular season is done (date TBD. Currently starts June 2, assuming no makeups for rainups).
Cost: $450/team ($75/player). There is no cost to play as a substitute.
Payout: Depends on number of teams – Regular Season Champions and Playoff Champions win Golf Shop credit. All entry fee money will be paid out and divided evenly between the regular season and playoffs.
Regular Season
Teams will consist of 6 players, but only 4 players play each week against 4 players of the opposing team. Teams should be assembled keeping in mind travel schedules, vacations, etc. Substitutes can participate throughout the Regular Season and Playoffs, and can play for any team throughout the season. A substitute player can be any player who is not already on a team. All players must have a GHIN handicap registered at EBCC and be a member of the MGA.
Teams will designate a captain, who will be responsible for the weekly lineup. The lineup for each week is due by noon on the day of the matches. The team captain will also submit a team name when they sign-up for League. Team captains are responsible for fielding a team each week, including subs. The Golf Shop will not be responsible for getting substitute players.
Only teammates in the same foursome can assist each other with reading putts, etc.
Play the ball down everywhere.
Points
There are 5 total points available for each weekly team match - 4 individual and 1 team bonus point.
Individual Points: The 9-hole matches will be match play format, with 1 point awarded for winning a hole, and ½ point awarded for tying a hole. The player with the most points after 9 holes wins 1 additional point, or ½ point if the match is tied. If a team fields fewer than 4 players, they will forfeit the matches not represented and lose 9 individual points and 1 bonus point (10 points total).
Bonus Team Point: The total of all the individual hole points (every hole counts!) from the 4 individual matches are added up, and the team with the most points will receive 1 team bonus point.
100% of handicaps will be used and will be established from the GHIN system at noon on the day of the matches. Matches will be played off the lower handicap player.
Team points are cumulative for the season (includes all Individual Points and all Bonus Team Points). The team with the most points is the Regular Season Champion.
Playoffs
The Playoffs will consist of the top 8 teams. A minimum of 4 players (Captains choice) will be required to participate in all matches. However, captains may agree to play 5 or 6 players if both captains agree. The championship match and the 3rd place match will consist of 9 or 18 holes (Captains choice). The Playoffs will be set up like an NCAA tournament bracket. In the event of a tie at the end of the regular season, the following format will be used to break any tie(s). This will impact both the Regular Season payouts and the Playoff seedings:
Head-to-head Team Points.
Head-to-head Individual Points.
Total Individual Points for the season.
Week 1
An 8-team bracket will be based on seedings. The 4 winning teams will advance to the next round.
Week 2
Semi-final matches will be played with the 4 remaining teams.
Finals
The losers of the semi-final matches will play a 9-hole or an 18-hole match (Captains choice) for 3rd place with a minimum of 4 team members participating. The winners of the semi-final matches will play for the tournament championship - 9 or 18 holes (Captains choice) with a minimum of 4 team members participating.
If subs are needed to complete a team, players cannot be part of a regular season League team.
