The RAAFT Plan

Phase 1: Repair the mechanical system, grow the programs.

June 2026 - February 2028

While the Evergreen pool has had significant upgrades and remodels over the last decade, including a new roof, resufacing of the pool deck, upgrades in lighting, improvements to the locker room, and a brand new diving board, the mechanical system is in serious disrepair. We are working to fund the needed reapirs immediately, so that the pool can re-open as soon as possible. We are targetting September 8th for re-opening, but that will depend on how long repairs take, and how quickly funding can be secured.

We are currently awaiting an estimate from a local pool repair company, and as soon as we get that we will share it.

Phase 2: Remodel the pool

February 2028 - August 2028

With support from the community and state, we intend to remodel the pool in the Winter through Summer of 2028. This will significantly increase energy efficiency, reduce downtime, and make the pool capable of handing more users each day. Most importantly, it will keep it open for the community for decades to come.

Phase 3: Become an aquatics hub

September 2028 - 2030

The Evergreen State College pool is already one of the most capable pools in Washington State, and after the remodel it can host dozens of swim meets, water polo matches, and clinics on the weekend, while also hosting lessons, dive teams, SCUBA classes, kayak clubs, and underwater hockey, too.

Dedicated programs throughout the nation, taken over by non-profits like ours, have not only saved pools, but have started growing and upgrading their facilities as well. And that is our goal, which leads us to phase 4...

Phase 4: Upgrade the facility

2030-2032

To support a growing population in Thurston County, we will need more facilities, and more seating. By 2030, our goal is to plan and build additional seating, more amenities and increased features.

Phase 5: Support a Regional Aquatics Center

2032+

When the time comes, Thurston County will need a new Regional Aquatics Center. And part of our plan comes with support for that. We know that Thurston County desperately needs more (not less!) aquatics facilities and programming, and as the population grows, it's need for pools will grow even more. Just as we have lead this effort, we will be there for the next.

And what better reason for supporting a regional aquatics center than showing that the one we already have is working, and running itself!
