Are You TIP Eligible?!
Description
The Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) encourages eligible Medicaid recipients to complete high school by providing tuition assistance during an eligible student’s qualifying certificate or associate degree program and also during the student’s bachelor’s degree program. These two periods of assistance are referred to as ‘Phase I’ and ‘Phase II’ and are detailed later in the Program Limits section.

To be eligible for award, a student must:
- Complete the TIP application prior to the application deadline.
- File a current-year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Be enrolled in at least six credit hours at a participating institution.
- Complete high school or its recognized equivalent prior to age 20.
- Students who attend a State-approved Early/Middle College have until age 21, but must contact our office to complete the application.
- Begin using TIP at a participating institution within four years of high school completion.
- Be a Michigan resident.
- If a dependent student, parent must also be a Michigan resident.
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or approved refugee.
- Not be incarcerated.
- Does not include detention of a juvenile in a State-operated or privately-operated detention facility.
- Be an undergraduate student.
- Not be in default on any Federal or State student loan.
- For renewal, meet institution’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy.
