Date of Establishment
The department was opened in the academic year 1993-1994. The first class graduated in 1997-1998, and the number of students was 17 male and female students. The department includes evening studies. This study was opened in the academic year 2008-2009, The department has now expanded significantly in the number of its students, the number of its teaching staff, and its laboratories. In the 2022/2023 academic year, the number of its students reached 577 male and female students for the morning study and 277 male and female students for the evening study. The number of teaching staff is 35, holding prestigious academic certificates and titles, and the number of its laboratories is 11 laboratories equipped with good scientific equipment (among these laboratories there are six laboratories designated for postgraduate research). With diligent efforts, postgraduate studies (master’s) were created in the department for the academic year 2014-2015, and there are Currently, there are 83 postgraduate (master's) students distributed between the preparatory year and the research year. Doctoral studies were opened in the department in the current academic year 2022-2023.
Message of Department:
The Department of Physics at the College of Education / Al-Qadisiyah University adopts the consolidation of the foundations of distinction in higher education by adopting educational programs characterized by excellence in teaching basic sciences that will enable students to acquire basic and advanced knowledge in various fields of physical sciences, in addition to providing the appropriate environment for them to acquire the necessary skills that It qualifies them to compete as professionals capable of enriching the labor market. On the other hand, the Department of Physics seeks to raise the distinctive efficiency of teaching staff in the fields of scientific research to create additional work in the advancement and distinction of this department and this college in basic and applied sciences to contribute effectively to solving problems in the various sectors of society. On solid scientific foundations through which it contributes to the comprehensive development that the new Iraq seeks.
Department objectives:
1- The department maintains and develops its strategic plans to attract new students or graduates at the highest level through educational programs that meet the actual needs of the labor market (education directorates and state institutions).
2- Providing students with broad scientific knowledge in the field of physical sciences that qualifies them for creative, productive work in private and public sector institutions.
3- The college works carefully and diligently to develop and advance scientific research by relying on an elite group of distinguished faculty members and encouraging scientific research, in addition to employing scientific research and investing it in developing society, solving scientific problems and proposing scientific solutions to them.
4- Qualifying distinguished graduates to engage in postgraduate studies in the field of physics to contribute effectively to solving scientific and technical problems to develop other scientific and technical fields.
5- Contributing to the transfer of new sciences in the field of physics, especially applied physics, by creating specific specializations .
6- Preparing scientific staff who deal rationally with other sciences in order to serve humans and the environment and have an effective role in global scientific activity by contributing to scientific conferences and seminars.
7- Preparing qualified cadres to contribute to the service of development and then serve the country and its development and keep pace with developments in developed countries.
8- Preparing research cadres capable of working in research centers and having scientific capabilities to advance the process of scientific research.
9- Directing research towards serving the country and society by contributing scientifically to solving development problems and obstacles.
10- Contributing to building and developing the Iraqi scientific library by writing books in the field of physics in the Arabic language, as well as translating the best references into the Arabic language. The department was also keen on developing culture by issuing a specialized magazine.

The Department of Physics works to excel in establishing an educational environment characterized by the quality of distinction, scientific research, and teaching methods using advanced technologies, in a way that ensures raising the level of graduates of the department and college. According to this vision, the department will work to provide an ideal environment in which students cooperate with the faculty member and the college, perhaps achieving a great goal, which is to serve Iraq.
