QUEEN OF PEACE GRAMMAR SCHOOL

It is my objective to instill a love of science on my students.  By presenting the many different aspects of science knowledge, students may become more aware of the sciences beyond chemistry and experiments.  During the pandemic, it was more difficult to show students hands on explanations, however, now that we have returned to full day in person learning,  it is my goal to include some digital knowledge in order for them to create projects beyond the classroom.

This year our science curriculum has been updated using Next Generation Science Standards.  Each grade level has received consumable books which give students a sense of ownership. The Savaas ELEVATE series that we use in grades 5, 6, 7, & 8 transform learning, promote innovation, and build higher order thinking.  There are student created activities based on new science standards.  We transform our classrooms into active, three-dimensional learning.  ELEVATE engages students with real-world tasks, open ended investigations and in the engineering/design process.  Our fifth graders created  garden stepping stone from conception to protype, our sixth graders created Rube-Goldberg contrations while explaining kinetic and potential energy also from design to create to operational.  Building modesl of museum type plant or animal cells were desinged, created and explained by our seventh graders,  And finally, the eigth graders are currently creating paper roller coasters which help explain Newton's Three Laws of Motion.  This is a sampling of what goes on here at QPGS.  Combine this with the digital component and you have three-dimensional learnig at its best.

We here at Queen of Peace follow the curriculum guidelines stated by the Archdioceses of Newark for each grade. It is our goal to have our students engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate key concepts and develop skills for the 21st century.    To the best of our abilities, we keep in accordance with these guidelines.

Mrs. MK Herrmann

As a lifelong learner, I am hoping my students will also consider themselves lifelong learners.  Education is the key to success and it is something that no one can EVER take away from you!!!  A catholic education is even more special because we can also instill the love of God and faith on our students.  This moral backbone can help guide them through all the challenges they may face in their lifetime.
