2 boxes of tissues
2 rolls of paper towels
2 packs of baby wipes
2 containers of disinfectant wipes
1 four-pack of playdoh
1 backpack large enough to fit a folder and a lunchbox
fabric rest mat
A full change of clothes for both hot and cold days, with multiple pairs of underwear
Optional: hand sanitizer
*We may ask for some restocking of tissues and paper towels halfway through the year
Clothing: Navy blue shirt/sweatshirt and navy blue shorts or sweatpants
Footwear: Children need to be in sneakers every day, even on dress down days. We move around a LOT every day and we need them all in safe, dependable footwear.
For rest time, your child needs to have a fabric nap mat, no plastic mats. You are welcome to find a nap mat on your own, but if you would like to purchase one at school, you can do so for $22. You will need to email Mrs. Venafra (pvenafra@qoaschool.org) if you are interested, because she is placing the order by Friday, August 19, 2022. Payments can be sent in on Back to School night, PreK Visit Day, or the first day of school. You can bring the payment in cash or in a check made out to Queen of Angels School.
We send the mats home bi-weekly to be washed.
Please make sure that anything you send to school has your child's name on it, especially clothing items. Many a year we have held up sweatshirts and missing mittens and none of the children claim them, even though someone indeed came in wearing them. Sometimes they even put things back in the wrong cubby by mistake and someone else takes their sweatshirt home. This comes with the territory of being four- and five-years-old, but please help our search efforts to go a little smoother by labeling anything that comes to school for your child.
We love to celebrate and learn about families! Please send in a photo of your family during the first week of school. (We display the family pictures on our class "Family Tree" for the year, and will send them home at the end of the year.) It provides a sense of comfort for your children as we start the year and sometimes at various points in the year if they are having a tough day. We also reference the photos when we talk about families in the beginning of the year.
Morning CARES
Morning CARES is available every day. The cost is $5 per family per day, and you do not have to be registered ahead of time, you can just drop in as needed.
Afternoon CARES
Afternoon CARES is available every day. Each month a CARES calendar is emailed out in an OptionC email for you to circle the days you would like for CARES that month. Since you pay per hour, you add up all the hours that you need and send in cash or a check with your calendar by the due date. There is a $25 registration fee at the beginning of the year. Hourly rates: $6/hour for 1 child, $11/hour for 2 children, $15/hour for 3 or more children. If you have any questions about the CARES program, you can email Tina DeLucas, the CARES coordinator: tdelucas@qoaschool.org
Please make sure your child has a refillable water bottle every day! Some days they are thirstier than others, especially in these early fall days where it can still be hot and humid.
Snack
You have the option to order a pretzel each day for your child for snack. You can either order for half of the year now and the second half of the year in January OR you can pay for the whole year at once. We will let you know the prices on Back-to-School night.
To make snack time easier on us with 18 children, please use the Ziplock baggie with their name on it that was sent home on BTS Night. This way, it can be unpacked separately from their lunch and we can rock and roll easily, especially if we eat snack outside (which we try to do frequently when the weather is nice!).
Hot Lunch
The monthly hot lunch calendar is similar to the monthly CARES calendar. You order by circling the days that you wish your child to receive hot lunch. The cost is $2.90 per day. Before sending in the calendar, please first make a copy of it so that you know what dates you ordered lunch. If you need to contact the hot lunch coordinators, you can email them at qoahotlunch@qoaschool.org.
*Please note that we are required to send home any uneaten hot lunch foods, per NDS.
Birthday treats
We love to celebrate birthdays in PreK! Here are some treats that are always a hit in case you need some ideas: mini cupcakes, Oreos, ice pops, fruit snacks, mini muffins/brownies, Rice Krispie treats, and donut holes. Please email me before you send anything in so that I can make sure that our schedule works for that day - sometimes we have multiple birthdays in one day and we want to make sure everyone has the chance to share a treat and not get sugared-out.
We are a peanut/tree nut free facility!
Not only is this important for our little friends who have allergies, but I am also highly allergic to nuts. Please save any foods with nuts for when your child is home. If you send in any nut substitutes (i.e. Sun Butter), please add a little note to your child's lunch so that we know and don't have to call you. If anything comes into school with nuts, it will be sent back home.
Follow the cars down the parking lot from Summit Ave. to Cedar St. In the mornings, Sister Joan will be at the door to greet the children and help them in.
In the afternoon, our routine is that when the children come outside, they stick up against the wall. When I see you, I will call them to go. Please do not pull your child off the wall or call to them. This is how I make sure I have everyone accounted for. It will take some getting used to in the beginning of the year, because they will want to run to you when they see you. But they will get the hang of it and I appreciate your help by waiting until I tell them they can leave the wall before you reach for them. The lanes in the afternoon will be marked for "PreK Only" (lanes 1,3) and "Upper School Only" (lanes 2,4). If you are also picking up a child in K-8, you can either pull into the PreK lanes, pick up your child, and then pull back around to get into lanes 2 or 4 OR you can just pull right into lanes 2 or 4 from the start.
PreK 4 goes on monthly trips to the Upper Moreland Library! Each time we visit, the librarian will read us a few books and teach us about a different part of the library. After that, the children are able to check out a book! In order to take out a book though, your child needs to have a library card. We will have more information on BTS Night, and we should have forms for you to take home and fill out to get a library card. Once you have the library card, we ask that you send back in the keyring card with your child's name on it so that we can use them on library days. They will be returned at the end of the year. If you live in UM Township, you can click here to apply for an UM card. If you do not live in UM, you will need to apply to your township's library (UM will honor other township's library cards).
October Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
Every year we visit the pumpkin patch for our field trip in October! Info will be given out at Back to School Night.
We mention this now so that you have enough time to add it to your schedules, because there needs to be at least one parent/guardian present. For this field trip, we meet at and dismiss from the farm, so there is technically no school for PreK that day.
An element of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) is Child Find; a mandate that requires all school districts to identify, locate, and evaluate children with disabilities, regardless of the severity of their disabilities. This obligation to identify all children who may need special education services, in either public or private schools, exists even if the school is not providing special education services to the child.
It is my job as your child's teacher to help identify any areas that they might need more help so that they are set up for success. Please know that if we need to talk about some areas for improvement, it is only for your child's benefit.
We are a team! You can always share any concerns, questions, or important information with me. We both want the best for your preschooler and there might be an idea that you have that could help me in the classroom, or vice versa.
The best/quickest way to reach me is by email: kgodzieba@qoaschool.org
If you would ever like to schedule a phone call or meet in-person, let me know and we can set that up.
