About Me
Introduction:
Hi, I'm Kami Christensen! Ever since I can remember, dance and performance have been a part of my life. From my early days in gymnastics to years of dance training and performing on stage, I've always been drawn to the energy and storytelling of the performing arts, which is what pushed me to join theatre in my 8th-grade year. Ever since then, I haven't stopped with my love for the arts, only immersing myself in them further. Acting, dancing, and bringing characters to life through musical theatre is my passion, and I'm excited to continue pursuing it beyond high school.
Background & Experience:
I started dance and gymnastics when I was just three years old, as I was a wild child who couldn't stop moving and throwing myself around. As I grew up, that energy turned into a deep love for movement and performance. From ages 7-11, I competed in gymnastics at a national level, and from ages 7-14, I competed in dance regionally. I've trained in all styles of dance, with a focus on contemporary and jazz, and a bit of ballet- I even performed in The Nutcracker several times when I was little
My journey into musical theatre started in 8th grade when the QCHS Theatre Company invited 8th graders in the district to join their production of Newsies. I was lucky enough to be one of them, and from that moment on, I was hooked. I became a part of the theatre program in high school and participated in every production from my sophomore year to senior year, whether on stage or behind the scenes in tech. My dedication eventually allowed me the opportunity to become the dance captain for my senior musical production of Hadestown.
Beyond school productions, I've had the opportunity to compete and travel with the troupe, attending events like MTCA, Nationals, the ITF Festival, and our regional festival. These experiences have helped shape me as a performer and solidified my passion for musical theatre.
Future Goals:
As someone who has a deep passion for the arts, I want to continue pursuing and doing what I love after high school. My main goal is to take a Gap Year to save up for a conservatory in New York, where I can continue my training and hopefully find my place in this world of theatre. Another goal I have when I am older is to teach my passion to other young kids and help immerse them in the arts, whether that be through being a dance choreographer, director, or coach, it doesn't matter, as long as I am doing what I love.
Personal Connection to the Arts:
For me, the arts have always been more than just performing, putting on a show, or having fun on stage- they've been a way to express myself. Whether it's delivering a monologue that resonates deeply with me or dancing through a song that feels personal, musical theatre has given me an outlet to process emotions and truly be myself. It's been a way for me to emotionally and mentally regulate, allowing me to channel my thoughts and feelings into something meaningful.
Beyond my own experience, I want to help others find that same connection. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to explore the arts in a personal way, which is part of why I chose to direct The Anxiety Project for my capstone. Not only does it spread an important message that everyone should hear, but it also gave the cast the chance to express themselves through the emotional weight of the words and music. The arts have the power to heal, to communicate, and to bring people together, and that's something I hope to continue sharing with others.
