Good morning students,
Once again, congratulations to our Class of 2020. The Grade 12 Virtual Celebration was a wonderful way to commemorate our grade 12 students given the current difficult circumstances we are facing. It’s also important to recognize the efforts of Chris Mercer, Blake Hanna, Dwayne Smith, and Ms Thuraya Abulkhair who worked tirelessly to put together the Grade 12 Virtual Celebration. Without their significant contributions of creativity, commitment and attention to detail, this project would not have been such a great success.

Good morning students,
As we near the last two weeks of school, we will take a different approach to our online learning plan. Instead of following a strict daily bell schedule, our teachers will provide a blended learning experience. In many classes, you will be given an assignment to complete for the week but you may not be meeting with your class every lesson. The assignment might be a one week or a two week task, and it will vary based on the course. It’s our intention to provide further meaningful learning opportunities for you up until the last day of school. If you have questions about the learning expectations during the next two weeks, please take time to reach out to your teachers.

Good morning,
With less than three weeks of school left, we want you to know that we're proud of you, your hard work, resilience, and continued focus and engagement. Keep going. We’re getting there and know that you can finish the school year strong.
Here is a link to an interesting article from Aljazeera.com about the impact that the extended quarantine has had on the environment. The Green Read: Will coronavirus help nature reclaim the Earth? It makes you wonder what lessons we might learn from this experience. What have we learned from spending so much time with our family? In many ways, our lives have slowed down, and we must make the most of simple activities and gestures. When the quarantine is finally lifted, will we go back to life as it was? Or will we take time to appreciate the smaller things in life, like time with friends, showing kindness to a stranger, or looking out for the environment? Something to think about today.

Good morning,
We are thrilled to share with you a story that Ms. Roula sent to us involving a former QAD student. It’s a wonderful example of social responsibility to support other individuals during this difficult time.
Please find below the Arabic & English copies shared with Qatar Charity:

Graduates of Qatar Academy Doha, students that have taken the schools message to heart, followed by nationalism, responsibility, effectiveness and social responsibility.
With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, these students stood tall in support of their country through adopting an idea they had undertaken yearly while in school; the “Ramadan Suitcase”. Lead by the alumni “Faisal Al Henzab”, they collected the suitcases with necessary household items, communicated with and assisted by Qatar Charity and their Transportation Unit Officer, and delivered on Thursday, April 23rd, 2020, 500 suitcases to laborers in the Industrial Area. Qatar Academy is proud to call you our alumni.

In a sign of support and solidarity for all countries around the world during the pandemic, a village in Switzerland has been projecting flags of countries on the Matterhorn. Two nights ago, the flag of Qatar was projected for everyone to behold. We hope you enjoy the picture below.
Also, we hope you enjoy the message of positivity and support from the grade 8 advisory team.
Please take some time to review the QAD typing challenge shared with everyone by Mr. Growett. It looks to be an exciting opportunity to demonstrate your typing skills.
Good morning,
Do you want to double your productivity and complete assignments in half the time?
Did you know that the average person types at just half the speed of a professional? Typing slowly makes it difficult to finish assignments and do your best in exams. With a little practice you can increase your typing speed, finish assignments in half the time and type like a pro. All you need to do is follow the link and sign up for the QAD Typing Challenge.
When you join the challenge you will be competing against your grade level and the rest of the school in a game based typing website. Even if you don’t win the competition you’ll have fun become a faster typer. This will give you an advantage in all your assignments and exams all the way through grade 12 and beyond. Click the link for your grade and start practicing with fun tutorials and games.
Good luck!

Good morning students,
We hope you enjoyed the weekend. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been working from home since Tuesday, March 10—twenty-four days of remote learning. As we reflect on this experience, we encourage you to take time appreciate some of the simple things in life, such as cooking from home, spending time slowing down and thinking, appreciating the work that others do for us—like the cleaners, cashiers, truck drivers, and health care workers. Sticking together and supporting each other; following the guidelines set forth by the government, these are some of the steps that will help us to defeat COVID-19.
As a reminder, this week marks our last week of school before moving to Ramadan hours. Please stay tuned for the Ramadan hours to be posted soon on the daily message.
Take care of yourself and stay focused.

Daily Message—Wednesday, April 1
Good morning students,
Happy April 1, also known as April Fools Day! We hope you are doing well and managing your daily workload. More importantly, make sure you have a daily routine. While it might be easy to let go of your daily habits, actually, now, more than ever, routine is very important. Take time each morning before the start of school to workout, eat breakfast, and prepare yourself for period 1. At the end of the day, stretch, take a walk, and give yourself a brain break. These habits will help you manage the day-to-day experience of working from home.
Here are a few important resources for you to check out.
This is a link to an article and video from Al Jazeera titled: Your coronavirus emergency kit: Five workouts to do at home
The article offers ideas for working out, maintaining routine, and generally looking out for yourself during this period of self-isolation.
Fitness Blender: This is a useful workout app/website. You can use Fitness Blender to find daily HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts. Again, stay healthy, move your body, and maintain a physical exercise routine. We challenge you to perform one Fitness Blender HIIT workout a day. This is a great way to stay in shape.
Finally, for our high school students, don’t forget that Quarter 3 reports will be released today. Service As Action Update:
Dear Students,
We hope that you are doing well. As you know, one of your requirements as an MYP student is to complete Service as Action by taking part in an activity and writing a reflection discussing the learning outcomes.
· If you have completed an activity, written a reflection and uploaded it to Managebac, you are done!
· If you completed an activity, but have not yet written a reflection…
o Write a reflection using the Guiding Questions. Answer 5 of the questions that work with your activity.
o Upload to Managebac in the SA Tab.
· If you have not completed an activity…
o Look at the list of possible activities that you can complete from home.
o After the activity is finished, write your reflection using the Guiding Questions. Answer 5 of the questions that work with your activity.
o Upload to Managebac in the SA Tab.
Do you have an idea for an activity that you think might meet the requirement? Do you have other questions? Please email your Service Leader, Ms. Kristi Deguzman (kdeguzman@qadoha.org) for Grade 6 and 7 and Ms. Hawa Omar (homar@qadoha.org) for Grade 8.
Thank you,
Ms. Roma, Ms. Kristi and Ms. Hawa
Dear QAD Students,
Good morning, and happy Thursday! Give yourselves a pat on the back for making it through the week. Online learning is certainly harder work than any of us could have imagined. During the weekend, along with completing any leftover classwork, take time to relax and rest your brain. More importantly, don’t forget to practice social distancing. This is really one of the only ways we will eradicate the virus and get back to a normal life. Stay in touch with friends through social media, but not in person.
We also need your help. Before the end of the day on Thursday, take a few minutes to complete this survey. Your answers will help us to improve our online teaching and learning practices. The survey link is HERE.
Looking after your well being while you’re working from home is very important to us, so take time to reflect on the advice below from our wonderful counseling team.
Reach out and spill the HOT tea, QAD! Do you miss your school counselors? We miss you and all that tea. It can be a short hello, tell us about your classes, talk about stress and or have a laugh. Just drop in, we’re here. You can find us at…

Daily Message for Students—Tuesday, March 24
Good morning students,
Today’s message is fairly straightforward. We are on a Tuesday schedule, so make sure to review the bell schedule below, especially since class will not end until 1:45 today. Make sure to give yourself brain breaks during the day. We know that learning from home can be a challenge, so take time to look after your well being. You should set up your computer in a friendly, learning focused environment. Try to avoid distractions. Drink water during the day and make sure to continue with healthy eating. Stand up, stretch, jumping jacks—these are all good activities to promote blood flow and stimulate the brain.
As a kind reminder, make sure to complete the exit ticket for each lesson, as this is the way that teachers are taking daily attendance. It’s very important that you engage in the learning of each lesson and that you complete the exit ticket at the end of the class. If you do not complete the exit ticket, you will be marked absent. More importantly, focus on the learning. Complete the daily and weekly tasks—we know you’re working on your own, which means self-management is critical. Be an advocate for your learning each day.

More importantly, when your teachers post a daily assignment, it’s required that you complete these tasks. During the lesson, feel free to communicate with your teachers if you are unclear about the material. For you to continue learning from home, you must be working during each lesson as directed by your teacher. Please do not miss out on this opportunity.
During the day, make sure to take brain breaks and to give yourself time to stretch and refocus for each lesson. Also, check in with your counselors from time to time. They are here to support you and to make sure you continue with your learning in a safe and nurturing environment.

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday, and don’t forget to complete your weekly learning summary reflection. And be sure to wash your hands… frequently!
Take care and be safe.

We want to ensure that not only are you learning each day but that you are taking care of yourself. Also, you will be pleased to know that your teachers have been working hard to develop lessons for you each day, and they are continuing to innovate and develop new ways of online teaching.
Finally, school begins again on March 22, 2020, and you will receive word from QAD as to whether or not we will be in the building or continuing to learn from home. Enjoy the rest of your Thursday, and don’t forget to complete your weekly learning summary.
Take care.

Daily Message: Tuesday, March 10, 2020
Good morning students,
We hope that you are doing well and taking care of yourself. So that we can maintain continuity of learning, we will be following our regular bell schedule. This means that school starts at 7:00 am today. Make sure you check in with your period 1 teacher to find out the assignment for the day and to be recorded for attendance. During the day, your classes will occur at the regularly scheduled times. You must register your attendance for each class as it occurs. You may email your teachers if you have questions about the lesson or need extra assistance. Your teachers will actively respond during the scheduled class times and are available by email from 7:00 to 3:00 each day. Also, if you need extra support, please reach out to your counselors as well. They are available by email to provide you with any assistance.
Finally, make sure to check Middle School Google site each day for the daily message. As a school, we will use the Google site for the daily message; however, if needed we will send out messages by sms and email to your parents as well. Do not hesitate to your teachers, counselors, or principals if you need help during this time of remote learning.
Take care and be well.

MUSICAL THEATRE PROJECT
CLICK HERE to sign up for the QF Musical
PUE Co-Curricular Department would like to offer you the opportunity to take part in an exciting musical theatre after-school activity. Students from grade 3 - grade 12 are eligible to be part of the production, as well as faculty and staff.
London-based SJC Productions, which is headed by Steve and Jane Griffiths, will be producing a musical theatre showcase featuring numbers from West End and Broadway musicals such as Wicked, Matilda, Les Miserables, Annie, Oliver, and others, accompanied by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
Steve and Jane Griffiths have planned professional, large-scale, musical productions for Qatar Academy Doha and Qatar Foundation between the years 2000 and 2010; a memorable experience for many Qatar Academy Doha alumni. In 2019 the Griffiths team will be joined by West End choreographer Chris Piper, resident director of the London production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and casting director of the acclaimed show Matilda.
The musical team will be in Doha for an introductory visit and to complete auditions from September 22 - October 5. They will be in QA-D Senior School on September 25 and 26. Rehearsals will take place from January and the final production will be in April.
Through the rehearsal and performance process, you will gain fundamental tools that will allow you to appreciate theatre, which in turn will aid in building on life skills such as self-confidence, determination, discipline, self-belief, self-expression, and learning how to set and achieve goals.
More information will be shared soon about after-school workshops and rehearsal timings!
