For students in Years 4 to 7 (2025), the Wise Phone is a gift from the College. If you would like to purchase additional Wise Phones for other family members, the cost is $300 per phone and you can order them here. Additional Wise Phones will be enrolled in the stage appropriate to the nominated age of the user.
Families will provide and pay for the mobile service and SIM. The Wise Phone is not locked to any mobile vendor so you are free to shop around for the most appropriate plan.
In later stages of the Wise Phone journey, your daughter will have access to WhatsApp. She can connect with family and friends via this app and join group video calls and share content within those safe groups. Until then, iMessages will come through as SMS messages to the Wise Phone. The Wise Phone has good options for device tracking, 'tap' payments, and messaging that works nicely across iOS and Android. In addition, apps such as Life360, Spriggy, and WhatsApp all provide true cross-platform functionality.
Yes, your daughter will be able to choose from one of three colours via this form. The phones are on display in the Junior School if you wish to view them before making your decision.
Students can also personalise their phone by purchasing protective cases or adding stickers to the clear cover provided with each Wise Phone.
Many families are ahead of the game and have locked down an existing phone for their child. You can choose to continue to manage the device yourself, but our preference is for the whole cohort to get on board and access the simplified Wise Phone management. Should you go down your own path, we will arrange a conversation with the Deputy Principal Students and / or Head of Junior School to walk through the proposed solution and help ensure it will keep your daughter safe.
Yes, you can use Google Family Link to add additional layers of safety for your daughter, including locking who she can call or text. You can read more information about Google Family Link here.
TBC. You will have the ability to uninstall some of the preloaded apps. However, if you do a factory reset, these apps will reload. You are also able to hide apps you cannot delete via the Settings page. You can learn more about the phone here.
We are always reviewing the best apps for each Wise Phone age group. If you have an app you like us to consider, please send your suggestion to wisephone@pymblelc.nsw.edu.au
Yes. Opal and Credit Cards can be added to the phone's wallet to allow your daughter to make tap payments. Spriggy is a great debit card option for your daughter that you can add to the Wise Phone tap payment system.
Some core apps will be loaded onto the phone for your daughter. Additional apps can be downloaded from a restricted app store if you want these available on her device.
The Wise Phone comes with two rear-facing cameras and a front-facing camera. However, during the First Steps stage (Years 4 to 5), the cameras will be disabled. As your daughter moves into the Safe Traveller stage (Years 5 to 7), the cameras are enabled so she can capture memories. Inappropriate camera use will result in consequences, including disabling the cameras for an appropriate length of time.
You can buy appropriate self-repair kits from iFixIt. Pymble stocks some of these kits and we are able to complete this repair for you at a small cost to cover the parts and labour. Shop for spare parts here.
Wise Phones can be brought to school but should remain in your daughter's locker during the day. If you need to contact her during the day, you can call the appropriate sub-school and they will help you and can contact your daughter if required.
HMD provides both the device and the device management software. You can learn more about HMD and their exciting Better Phone Project here.
No. We manage the apps and features available, but have no insight into how the phone is being used. We recommend parents and carers use Google Family Link to manage screen time and phone use on the Wise Phone.
When we launched the new Wise Phone movement to incoming Year 7 2025 parents in late 2024, the feedback was so overwhelmingly positive that we moved from an 'opt in' to an 'opt out' model. We also decided to offer it to all students in Years 4 to 6 (2025). We have every confidence all students and families in these year groups will unanimously join the Pymble Wise Phone Party and become trailblazers for a better online world for our girls.
