"Noticed, Needed, Nurtured" became the Wellness theme of Placentia Yorba Linda School District in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdowns. After a period during which our students were separated from each other and from us, we felt the need to remind each individual child that they are NOTICED, NEEDED, and NURTURED in our schools and, hopefully, at home as well. 

For many students who spent months only sharing their bedroom ceiling fans with a Zoom class, that human connection they have at school is an essential part of who they are and who they will be in the future. Here at Valencia, we kept that mantra going and use it as our guide in crafting our mission statement:

Valencia High School is committed to supporting every student through high expectations in a nurturing environment to ensure success now and in the future.

We worked tirelessly to help each of our students adjust, reacclimate, and flourish through a campaign focused on their well-being. Every person on campus works together to create a sense of belonging among all students by assuring they feel noticed, needed, and nurtured on our campus. When students have a purpose and are valued within their school community, they are more likely to contribute positively and interact with others. They are also more likely to excel both academically and socially during their time at school. More importantly, they will feel loved and respected by their teachers, staff, and administrators.

School is sometimes the only truly safe space for students to interact with one another throughout the school day. When looking for our latest TEDxValenciaHighSchool theme, we opted to go with the slogan we live by, guided by the belief that every child deserves to feel noticed, needed, and nurtured.
