FAQ

May my child bring in birthday treats for his/her birthday?

Due to allergies known and unknown, I ask that students bring in non-food items for birthday celebrations. Summer birthdays are welcome to celebrate at any time. Ideas include: pencils, erasers, stickers, highlighter, post it notes, etc..

Our home printer has broken or is out of ink. How do I print the homework?

Rarely will students need a printer at home. However, there may be times when they do. Google Classroom assignments are assigned regularly and may or may not require a print out. A parent note or email stating that your printer is out of commission is all that is needed to let me know that your child, did, in fact, complete the task, and they'll need printing done at school. It is your child's responsibility to be sure a note is given the following day, when the homework is due.

Should my child be reviewing multiplication/division facts?

Yes, yes, and yes. The old flashcards is the tried and true method. It's not always about playing games on the computer to learn facts. Daily practice is required for mastery. If your child is struggling, try keeping a set in each car, at the sitter's house, at home, at Grandma's house, and in the backpack. The more often flashcards are available, the more likely your child is to use them.

How often should my child be reading at home?

Reading is a daily and lifelong necessity. Therefore, daily reading is crucial at the primary grades. A 15-20 minute daily reading routine is wonderful.

How can my child get into GATE?

School is about learning, growing, and nurturing every student. My goal is to provide my students with skills that will be expanded upon each year of their K-12 education. Each student learns at his/her own pace. Students come to class with individual minds and learning styles. Should a child naturally think "outside of the box" and need an alternate classroom setting, his/her mind will show us this ability. The district has specific criteria for students requiring an alternate class setting. There is no type of studying or reviewing that will ensure your child will "get into GATE."
