Bring your own Chromebook (BYOCB)

At Pyes Pā we use a blended e-learning approach, where we use a blend of traditional methods for teaching and learning, as well as using ICT to support or facilitate learning. Our goal is to develop the student's ability to select the right tool for the learning task; which could be pen and paper or a computer.

Chromebooks are, by far, the #1 device used in schools because they’re easy to use, versatile, and secure — we know trust is earned by protecting privacy and providing worry-free security. It helps that Chromebooks come as laptops and tablets with big screens and small screens, and entry models are affordable. They are fully managed on our school network while using the application Hapara to support students in classrooms. We are committed to providing Chromebooks in our middle and senior classrooms. Our long-term goal is to have 1 to 1 Google devices across our middle and senior school. We currently have 1 to 1 devices in our year 7-8 class and over 90% in our remaining middle and senior school classes.

What this means is if you already have a Chromebook at home you may bring it to school or you may purchase one at Noel Leeming, PBTech, Warehouse Stationery or from your preferred store. By providing a device for your child it becomes their property, which they can use at school throughout years 4 – 8. They will have the ability to take the device home and it is their property when they leave Pyes Pā School.

However, there is no requirement or obligation to buy one. Without purchasing one children are not able to take the devices home. Children who do not purchase one are not disadvantaged and have the same access rights at school.
