database or da.ta-base [dey-tuh-beys]
A database is an organized collection of information. They include thousands of magazine articles, newspapers and scholarly journals. Much of the content within databases would not be available through a Google search, as they are published works paid for by libraries, or other people and organizations.
So...should I just search in Databases instead of Google?
Not necessarily. When conducting academic research, you are looking for the best information on your topic. This means look in many different places. The top places you should look at would be in Databases, Google and Books. Of course with all information, you need to evaluate your source for credibility and bias.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) provides various learning resources to all public schools, through an extensive collection called Badgerlink.
