Wrocław University of Science and Technology

Wrocław University of Science and Technology (WUST) is a public institution founded in 1945, but its academic legacy dates over160 years back to the University of Lviv. It is a leading research and teaching center and one of the most dynamically developing technical universities in Poland. WUST conducts wide-scale international cooperation with universities across the world, as shown by the number of signed bilateral international agreements: approx. 600. Within this framework, WUST is visited by foreign students participating in short-term international mobility programs and summer schools as well as foreign academic staff taking part in scientific and education exchanges. Currently, the number of full time international students from over 80 countries amounts to 1500.

WUST is one of the largest and best technical universities in the country – with almost 22000 students at 13 faculties and 3 branches and over 800 doctoral students. The number of academic staff amounts to almost 2200. The infrastructure comprises, among others, 119 buildings, almost 800 teaching and 250 research laboratories. WUST is the first in Poland coordinator of an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master, a member of various associations.

The University offers three levels of education in English or in Polish. The current educational offer of studies in English includes 36 Bachelor and Master’s degree programmes as well as doctoral studies.

Our student's collaboration

There are over 150 student scientific circles, student associations and culture circles. The most innovative and successful scientific cirles get the status of 'strategic' and they receive additional funding. In 2023 the strategice status was given to:

PWR Racing Team

Every season, they create a new racing car. They have a remarkable collection of eleven unique internal combustion engine models, with each subsequent one easily surpassing its predecessor. In the previous season, they introduced the first-ever electric car in the team's history, equipped with autonomous driving systems – the RT12e. They are among the top teams in the global ranking and hold the first position in Poland and 11th place worldwide in the 2021 season.

Project SCORPIO

Martian rovers created by members of the Scorpio Project since 2013 have been actively participating in international competitions from the Rover Challenge series, taking place worldwide. For years, they have been consistently achieving top positions in prestigious events, promoting the good name of our university and Polish technological thinking. Their rovers have even been recognized by NASA scientists during a visit to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena!

Humanizing the Urban Environment

This year, the circle's members intend to create the ProtoLAB Mobile Prototyping Laboratory from a used van. It will allow them to expand their current activities and realize projects for pavilions, furniture and interiors in various locations in Poland and abroad. So far, they have created, among others, an Arch/Box Pavilion and a prototype of a Viennese bus stop during the Living Street project. Students will also design and build a quiet zone for PWr students and employees on the main university campus.

Academic Aviation Club

This year the club is going to build a prototype of an unmanned airframe for specialized SAR missions using multi-wavelength vision systems to collect and analyze data in real time (allowing for aerial detection of people in danger). The aircraft is going to have a system for launching a smaller autonomous unmanned aircraft capable of delivering necessary supplies to injured or endangered persons. Such solutions will make it possible to reach aid in hard-to-reach areas.

Scientific Circle of Vehicles and Mobile Robots

In this circle, students are designing and building the LEM motorcycle. This year it will be the LEM Tachyon - which is a racing electric motorcycle with an ion battery, the second with such a purpose in the history of the circle, with which they want to qualify for the international Motostudent competition at the Aragon circuit in Spain.

Wrocław

a city of timeless beauty, where history meets vibrant culture

Wrocław is the 3rd largest city in Poland with a population of over 670 thousand people. The city has over 20 higher education institutions and hosts over 100 thousand students. The official language spoken is Polish, yet the citizens of Wrocław communicate in foreign languages. Growing numbers of international citizens are choosing Wrocław as a place to live in.

Wrocław is a city with a rich and multicultural history, beautiful architecture and plentiful green areas situated by the Odra River on 12 islands connected by over 100 bridges. The earliest written record mentioning Wrocław is from the year 1000. In his book devoted to Wrocław – Microcosm: a Portrait of a Central European City, Norman Davies writes: “It [Wrocław] embodies all the experiences that have made Central Europe what it is – the rich mixture of nationalities and cultures… In short, it is a Central European Microcosm.”

Poland

Poland, a central European country, is a member of the European Union, NATO and United Nations. It is a parliamentary republic with academic traditions going back to the 14th century. In terms of economy, Poland has one of the biggest consumer markets in Europe. It has a strategic location in central Europe. Well-educated specialists, engineers, economists, doctors and other professionals graduate from Polish universities every year, forming a strong base for the economy and industry.

Poland is a pioneer of European constitutionalism. In 1791 the King and Parliament of the Republic of Poland and Lithuania passed the first constitution in the Old World, later called the Constitution of the 3rd of May. In 1364, the Cracow Academy – today known under the name of Jagiellonian University – was established. It is one of the oldest universities in the world.

Poland has a population of approximately 38 million and a total surface area – including land and waters – of almost 312,500 square km. It has a lot to offer in terms of tourism: from areas practically untouched by civilisation to outstandingly beautiful historical cities and world heritage sites. From the Baltic Sea in the north, to the unique Masurian Lake District in the northeast, to the mountain ranges in the south.
