Welcome! Bienvenidos!

Aloha! I hope you are all safe and healthy. Please know that health and well-being are always the first priority. During this transition, my goal is to continue to innovate a positive educational experience for all, as well as be flexible and responsive to each individual student and parent needs. I'm here to listen and adjust to individual and collective needs.

My work hours are 8:30am-4pm.

Thank you so much for your patience and support as we navigate these new waters together.

It's an honor to be your child's 4th grade teacher this year.

Please email me with questions: melissa_shaw@pvusd.net

Working together to achieve our goals!

HOMEWORK POLICY

While we are participating in Distance Learning, WCSA students will be responsible for completing their asynchronous (on their own) assignments each day. Those will be found on the "Schedule" page of this website, as well as on Google Classroom for the students to access with live links each day.

Students should read for 25-30 minutes each day.

Please help your students maintain an active, creative, and balanced lifestyle as much as possible. We're in this together.

CLASS NEEDS AND WISHES

Thank you families for your generous support! We don't need any class supplies at the moment. But I still would greatly appreciate parent support and shared leadership this year.

PARENTS: please click the link below to take a quick back-to-school survey to help me get to know your family better. Thank you!

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Hello! My name is Melissa Shaw and I love to be active outdoors. I grew up two hours north of here in a town called Novato, where my parents still live. I played lacrosse at UC Santa Barbara and received my credential and Masters in Education from UC Santa Cruz. This is my 16th year teaching and my fifth year learning with fourth graders at WCSA. This summer I stayed healthy by spending a lot of time hiking and running. In fact, I participated in a virtual team race from San Francisco to Brooklyn and I completed over 200 miles (with my mask on)! When I'm not distance teaching, you might find me relaxing with my book in my hammock, gardening, hosting Zoom game nights and birthday virtual celebrations with friends/family around the world, kayaking, concocting new vegetarian recipes, painting geometric art, or riding my cruiser. I have a passion for creativity, so I love to express my teaching methods through creative means. I'm looking forward to connecting and challenging ourselves as a community of artistic problem solvers this year!

4th graders, let's continue to fill the world with joy!
