LOS PRIMEROS PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
** Denotes areas of instruction/activity listed from this point on that are currently suspended due to facilities transition.
GENERAL PHILOSOPHY
To offer a developmental and age appropriate program designed to provide students with the knowledge and ability needed to maintain or achieve an active healthy lifestyle. Physical Education is an integral part of a comprehensive education. Physical Education offers the opportunity for the development of not only the physical well being, but also the mental and social. A healthy ‘balanced’ person will be more successful in all the challenges they encounter.
UNIT OVERVIEW
Most units are three weeks in length. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays have lower body stretches and a cardiovascular component. Tuesday and Thursday have upper body stretches followed with upper body conditioning. The balance of class time is devoted to the particular game, sport or activity. Generally the first week is introduction and instruction. The second week is skill proficiency checks. The third week is for games (if proficiencies met). Frequently, the week between traditional sports is where games or activities that align with the grade specific areas of emphasis are presented. This would include cooperative challenges and problem solving challenges. Balance and ‘core’ training are also emphasized during these weeks.
