Dear LPSSA Families,
Welcome to 7th or 8th ELA and/or the College & Career Awareness Elective! It is with pleasure and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year. I am extremely excited to be working with all of you, and I look forward to a great year of learning and growing! I always post information and explanations for assignments on my LPSSA teacher page and in Google Classroom (when applicable). Please be in the habit of always checking/reading my LPSSA teacher page first. An explanation of assignments will also be posted in Google Classroom if the assignment is to be submitted there. While I strive to post assignments and reminders on this website (or Google Classroom) nightly, there may be occasions when that is not possible. Ultimately, students are responsible for keeping track of assignments and due dates. Assignments, which include class work for the day and/or homework, are posted daily, usually by 4:00 p.m. Using an agenda book, student planner, or Google Keep is a skill that is imperative for success in all academic areas. Additionally, changes made in the classroom are not always reflected on my teacher page.
Please remember to access the online textbook and resources (MyHRW) through Classlink. Students are able to email their teachers using their pvsdcamarillo.org address. They may also type a private comment/question directly to me in Google Classroom assignment posts. Communication and understanding are two key components to being successful. In addition, it is expected that all students are respectful of both staff and peers. Please know that I value and endeavor to create an environment that allows students to feel comfortable with taking academic risks and not being afraid to make mistakes. I look forward to a positive and productive school year of learning and personal growth. If you ever need to contact me regarding your student, please do not hesitate to send me an email at the following address: cschweers@pleasantvalleysd.org.
ABOUT ME
This is my thirtieth year in education, and this is my fourteenth year teaching at LPSSA. I have previously taught at A. E. Wright Middle School, Taft High School, Channel Islands High School, and Conejo Valley Adult School. I have lived in Camarillo since 1978, and I am a graduate of Adolfo Camarillo High School and CSUN. I have degrees and teaching credentials in both English and ESL (English as a Second Language). My husband and I are the proud parents of two wonderful children. Our daughter is a Kindergarten teacher, and our son is currently earning his Master's Degree while also coaching football at the university he attends. My husband and I have been very happily married for twenty-nine years. In my spare time, one can find me either walking my dogs, riding my bike, reading a good book, or spending time with my family.
