As we are all entering into an uncharted territory and we all may feel a bit uneasy, I want to thank you for your patience, understanding and kindness. I know this situation is not ideal for anyone and it is just a flat out bummer. My thoughts are with you and your family as you may be navigating unemployment, childcare needs, the stress of working from home and the fear and anxiety that comes with the unknown.

It is my goal to make things as simple and routine as I possibly can for you, your child and your family. I will be “hosting a meeting” throughout the week with your child and their classmates using Zoom. Zoom is a user-friendly program to video chat and screen share. I will teach a phonics lesson, read stories, lead discussions, show videos and even host show and tell.

I will meet with AM Panthers from 8:10-10:15. I will meet with PM Panthers from 11:20-1:25. It is required for your child to attend and participate. You are welcome to sit near your child as they might need help using the computer; however, it will be helpful for your child to use headphones, especially if you are working from home.

I will email a Zoom meeting request with a link and a code for your child’s scheduled meeting. Follow the prompts and make sure video, audio and mic is on. Your child needs to be in a quiet location with limited distractions. If your child needs/wants to set up additional Zoom meetings with me throughout the week, just text or email me. I only ask that we be in a meeting with at least one other student or a parent/guardian is present.

Moby Max

Students can also practice skills on Moby Max (www.mobymax.com/signin/lpssak2)

It is also crucial that your child practices handwriting of upper and lower case letters, high frequency words and reading.

Please remember, students are not physically at school with me, you do not need to make it like school. This is not a vacation for anyone; however, please do not panic or stress that you need to make distance learning exactly like school. If you are able, cook with your children, read books, write stories, sculpt things with playdoh, build something, make a how to video, do a puzzle, draw, use chalk, play, ride bikes outside, write a script and act something out, listen to music, garden, organize a closet, play with your pets or write a letter to your teacher ;).

Here are some fun ideas to practice high frequency words:

Use chalk on the sidewalk/driveway

Water and a paint brush on a wood fence or concrete

Make the word with playdoh

Draw the word in sand

Create the word with string or noodles

Write the word with your finger in shaving cream on a tray or plate

Use finger paint to write the word

Write the word with Legos

Use letter magnets/cookie cutters
